Ride to The East Lake Sammamish Trail Grand Opening from Issaquah

This celebration has been 26-years in the making, with King County Parks purchasing the former BNSF railroad corridor in 1997 with the intent of building a regional trail to connect Issaquah, Sammamish, and Redmond to the greater Regional Trail network.  From Issaquah riding on trails to Gas Works Park is now a reality!

Let's meet at the Gerks Ski and Cycle in Issaquah. Be there, ready to leave at 11:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

We will ride to the Northern Start of the East Lake Sammamish Trail where the celebration will start at 12:00 PM. The trail may or may not be open on our ride North to Redmond.  It will definitely be open on our ride back. We will also stop for a treat at Peets Coffee in Redmond. We may stop along the newly opened portion of the trail for pictures on the way back.  After returning to Issaquah, consider checking out the Issaquah Salmon Days festival which will be in full swing.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will wait at the top of hills. Speed will be limited to 15 MPH on the trail.

Restrooms are available at the start.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

We hope you can join us!
